Normal failure of valve cover stems from over torquing which crushes inner
stand offs. The cause of the over torquing was a oil leak, which was normally
caused by a reduction in the thickness of the rubber seal from the manufacturer. Mercedes Benz started this reduction in seal thickness all others
followed. Cure was to shorten (file down) the inner stand offs.
That was a technique that was being sold by our guy in Oregon. Apparently, he advocates filing down the entrance holes on the cam cover so that the gasket will become a little deformed when tightening it down.

ARP (Automotive Racing Products) recommends when installing their cylinder head or main bearing studs to finger tighten only.

Just trying to pass information. That technique was also being sold by
Mercedes Benz, because of less thickness of seal (twice as thick)not enough
pressure could be obtained to properly seal from oil leaks. Hitting stops.
I think the idea was to apply a little more pressure to the seal but not to
deform. Deforming gasket or seal would most likely enhance the possibility
of causing a leak.

I haven’t read through all 4 pages of this thread, so someone might’ve already suggested trying belmetric dot com. Happy hunting.

I've already order new ones from Mercedes (were supposed to be here today but aren't). Interesting site, thank you. I may use them in the future.

Alec300SD hooked me up with the part numbers which really helped.

Passenger side studs 617-016-00-70
Driver side studs - 616-016-00-70 (interchangeable w/ 616-016-01-70)
Nuts - 000-934-00-80-13

Ordered the bolts & nuts from MBpartsworld (Mercedes of South Atlanta) Monday morning at 8am, paid for the express overnight shipping, it's Thursday and I just got a FedEX notification that it will be delivered tomorrow. All that after I called them Tuesday to verify the shipment.
They didn't care at all when I explained how I was having to rent a car until I got the bolts (that I paid over $100 for w/ shipping). If I'd known they wouldn't ship until today I would have driven to Atlanta and picked them up myself.

Others offered, as well as I would have given you the parts for free if you paid the overnight shipping. You had already decided to order them.....Rich

I just needed the fastest route, and if they'd upheld their end it would have been the fastest way.

Thank you!
BTW
It turns out that the new valve cover is what stripped the studs.
Must have been a bad cast, because one the holes on the passenger side for the stud was as small or smaller than the actual stud. So I ever so slightly scraped the threads enough to lock the nut in place - twisting the stud loose when I had to remove the cover again and really ruining the threads when I finally got the nut off.
New studs, new nuts and a round file for the hole in the cover. Now she's right again.
