How many million mile Mercedes have there been?

Just wondering if Mercedes has a record of them by way of how many badges they gave out.

Do you mean on Craigslist? I think all of them have the "million mile motor".

Not million mile wannabe's, but the ones who've actually made it

Not the dreamers, actual miles.

I checked with Mercedes via chat

The person I chatted with said she didn't know, and didn't know where to find out. They have a badge for it, so it's pretty obvious someone somewhere would know the actual number, but just not the person who I chatted with.

The badge is for 1 million kilometers, not miles.

What I want to know is how many Mercedes (of any variety) made it to 1,000,000 KM or Miles, take your pick, on the *ORIGINAL DRIVETRAIN*.

Who cares if the chassis made it to 1M, that isn't hard to do, Ford/GM pickups in commercial duty do it all the time, but with replacement/rebuilt engines or transmissions. Making it with the OE-fitted drivetrain is something worth bragging about, doing it with replacement/rebuilt drivetrains isn't special or uncommon.

That is reasonable to me . Really high millage older buggies are not going to show up at dealers service facilities usually. What service they would get is more likely either done by the owner or sourced as cheaply as possible. Or just not done if the car still runs and drives.

All I really know is many of these older cars in peoples hands today. Have more accumulated overall millage on them than they probably realize. I also think a time has economically passed. Where you could keep repairing them endlessly to reach exceptional miles. Even that might require almost all highway miles on long runs.

Some of the ones I have seen look like they have seen a million miles though. Even if they have not.

What people may not realize. The cost of owning most cars is rising fast today. Retained value is dropping fast in relationship to the cost. True depreciation factors are becoming really substantial. Repairs are expensive. Quality in a lot of cases is dropping. Many brands are no longer or should even be on peoples radar. Yet hype still gets them sold. If one does not have a lot of money. It may be important to get a handle on your total cost per mile of ownership.

It has been amazing to me just how many of these older buggies still make long highway trips with newish owners that are not familiar with the car. Without even a serious preliminary overall examination on a hoist.

I own a million km badge that I bought on E-bay in the 1990s.

I was going to make a collection and mount the 250k the 500k and the million K badges.

Just never got around to it.

My 87 190D turbo made the 750KM badge, but I let a leaking aux heater pump blow coolant on the highway, and roasted the head... I could replace the gasket, and or head, and get it back on the road on the original repaired drivetrain... but I'm quite busy... it's on my list to do... a LONG LONG list...

My '79 240D definitely had a few more than the proclaimed 173K miles. Odometer broke sometime in the 1990s if I had to guess. Judging by the wear, I'd say the OG engine and trans was at about 325K to 350K.

My 98 e300 met its demise at 560k before the original engine dropped a valve seat and I parted and scrapped it.
