81 240d 4 speed shifter spinning
I have a manual transmission 240 d and the shifter literally can spin around in circles.
I know the rear linkage bushings need replacing but I can't figure out why the shifter just spins around. Any help? Pictures of the repair? Thanks! |

Can you post a video of what's going on? I use an '83 240D shifter in my race truck and I can't figure how this could happen but if there was a video I'd go look at mine and see how this could be possible. Guess I'm not quite sure what's happening for you.

I rebuilt my shifter a few months ago. I’m not sure if you mean the shifter spins on axis (like twists in place) or you mean you can move it around a circumference...
there are three plastic parts inside the shifter that can wreak all kinds of havoc when they break/disintegrate: two bushings and a spacer clip. Probably $10 for the lot. Tutorials are all over the site.
