Post Kooooop's Vanished Reply

I wondered what happened to your post, it came through in my E-Mail .

So, you're good to go now ? .

I'm sure you're aware there are two LKQ yards in Orange County....

IMO, nothing in Orange County is far from the Pacific Ocean .

One down in Oceanside, too .

Vanished post.

I put the spare cheapo striker on the car, it worked so I posted what I did.

It worked, then it didn’t... I took the post down...

Thanks for the tip on LKQ junkyard in Stanton, they have a bunch of different Benz there.

Other than the W123 and the W126 are there any other models the door strikers are changeable with?

Post Door Striker Interchange

Not that I'm aware of, the new, revised W123 strikers have a W126 part # .

Once you go to the Stanton and other local to you LKQ's you'll see plenty of good, low mileage clean W126's with *perfect* original strickers .

TIP : look closely at that darned little black plastic nub that wears / breaks off, if there's any wear no matter how slight or if it's not dark dead black , don't waste your time on it ~ once it gets that tiny groove it's done and before they crumble they begin to change to a lighter color .

Remember to SAVE THE SCREWS from the junkyard ! .

It's common to strip one or three out so having good spares is important .

Thanks for that, all of the original strikers in my car had turned the lighter color so that’s what I thought I was looking for!

Fortunately I have a bag full of new screws, since I was replacing all four strikers originally I figured I’d need a few. I’m going this morning.

Just a quick side note - when you pull a part at LKQ, pocket the nuts and bolts. They charge 25¢ per each now.

The door striker on the W126 looks a bit different

I just put the striker from the W126 on the car, I can close the door with a gentle push from one finger.

So nice, thanks for the tip Nate.

Understood about the little plastic nub ~ sometimes it soldiers on, others it gives up the ghost .

I'd think using the new rubber / plastic bits from a cheapo striker in your old metal might work O.K. too....
On the junker W126 the screws were stuck tight. I used a small ball peen hammer and gave each screw 1 firm whack, they all cooperated after that.

This is great... I never noticed the subtle differences between the 123 an 126 strikers. Will try readjusting my 123 strikers and if no love will grab a couple 126s.

Nice one Nate

There’s a pretty big hook sort of thing on the top of the W126 striker, but it worked perfect.

I bought the two off the left side of a W126, they were under six bucks each.

Post Door Latch Strikers

Don't be afraid to fool with the adjustment a bit ~ I install only two screws in a diagonal pattern, lightly snug 'em down then sit and peer in and make incremental adjustments .

I rushed and didn't get the R.F, one on my brother's '87 300SDL "Just So' so one has to either slam the door or it goes on the 1/2 (safety) latch, irritating .

I asked him to let me re adjust it Saturday afternoon but he declined .

I fooled with it a bit, now it works perfect and I mean perfect.

The little rubber/plastic nub broke off my front passenger door yesterday. The door still closes, but doesn't latch completely closed. It sort of pops a quarter inch back open.

From reading this thread, it looks like I have to buy a new striker, but I can get an aftermarket, and then install the rubber guts of it into my original metal striker frame?

I was thinking of trying to re-create the nub with a hot glue gun but this probably won't last very long.

At 5 or 6 bucks for the replacement I wouldn’t bother with the attempted fix.

Find a junker W126, the screws will probably be stuck tight. I used a small ball peen hammer and gave each screw 1 firm whack, they all cooperated after that. Adjusting the them once on the 240D was nothing.

The chinese made replacements aren’t very good.
