SD Blue, I couldn't agree more. After replacing the strikers, adjusting the shims, it all comes down to lubing them dang latches ! On another issue, have any of y'all ever had one of the front doors "pop" behind the hinge when opening ?

Exclamation "POP" Sound In Doors

That sound is a serious warning the check is about to fail and when it does it can jamb the door open or worse if you try to force it closed ~ you'd best disconnect it ASAP .

I ended up buying a new replacement (URO brand) online.

The bolts are 5mm hex, and all I had in that size was a small hex wrench, which despite using penetrant and hammer taps, started stripping the bolt head.
I went to the home improvement store and bought a driver for my breaker bar and they all popped off easily.

After a few minutes of adjusting, I was able to get the new striker placed properly, seems ok.

The passenger side aftermarket replacements worked okay, not great on our 1981 240D but the driver side were worthless.

the genuine while pricy require no real adjustment or anything to shut like a dream. part number is superseded to a w126 part and they work perfect the first time.

^ We've sold 439 of the driver's side striker in the last year with only one returned as "defective" so it probably wasn't ours, but if anyone has any issues please let us know.
