Last September I was lucky enough to be on a MBCA tour in Stuttgart. We visited the Mercedes museum and the Porsche museum and also the Mercedes Classic Center in Fellbach and also the AMG plant. We were also given a tour of the S class assembly line and, on our last day (Saturday) of a week long tour, we were treated to a visit to the Stuttgart Octoberfest. A trip of a lifetime.

Both the Mercedes and Porsche museums exceeded my expectations, particularly Mercedes. The breadth of their offerings was a ton of fun to see. I hit the BMW museum as well over in Munich, it was great too, but if forced to rank, MB 1, Porsche 2, BMW 3

We actually ended up going to both. My old friend gave us tickets to the Porsche museum so we went straight from one to the other. Both fantastic! The Porsche museum rotates some of their exhibits so the whole place had the smell of air cooled engines. After the museums we met up for food and drinks. Great time was had by all. I’ll post a few pics when I get to a place where I can do that.

If you are visiting Stuttgart and have the time and are able to have access, the Mercedes Classic Center in Fellbach is also a must see. There are also several independent restorers of Mercedes in Stuttgart to see. A few of these independent companies will built a classic Mercedes to any specifications you want. I saw a few W111 coupes and cabriolets fitted with modern AMG drivetrains.
