is my paint job single stage?
Hi,
I am ordering some touch up paint for my 1980 240d It is paint code 623, light ivory. The paint is all original. Do I have a single stage paint? The reason I ask is because it is an option when ordering the touch-up paint. Thanks. |

From what I've been told, the W123 metallic colors used clear coat which is why they always looked fried. All other colors, however (including yours), were single-stage.

I have an 80 240D 4-spd, same color.
I agree it is single stage, give her a good coat of wax/cleaner and looks brand new. Our 82 240D Maple yellow is also single stage. 40 yr something single stage is only way to go. The paint MB put on these cars in incredible. Metallics/Clear Coat are total garbage. Charlie

When you polish it (not wax) if the rag becomes the color of the car, then no clear coat. If the rag does not become the color of the car it has clear coat.
