Knocking coming from right tire
Hey All,
I'm a novice here and I'm trying to figure out certain issues with my 81 300D non turbo sedan. Any help would be appreciated. I hear a knocking sound coming from the right front tire when making sharp right turns. I don't hear so much when I'm making a wide turn or a left turn though. Any thoughts? |
stock wheels and tires?
|
It has the stock Bundt rims. Not sure of the tire brand but they are the correct size.
|
Next, check the ball joints and tie rod ends for play.

Check your lug nuts. Sounds stupid, but what you describe is certainly a symptom of loose ones.
|
Could be a shifted belt in the tire, also could be bad wheel bearings.
|
I think the short story is that there is no one particular case you need to inspect all at least on that side if the front end that can wear or deteriorate.
Are you experiencing any abnormal tire wear? Note it is easy to check the Tie Rods. Safely jack up one wheel and don't rotate it but try to turn it from side to side and watch the Tie Rod ends for movement. Note there might be a Youtube vid on that. |
Brake support mount is gone south?
|
Rhythmic thump or distinct knock or irregular ? .

Yes, caliper bracket.
|
That would not cause knocking during turns though.

Different from the caliper bracket. https://cdn3.pelicanparts.com/catalo...3-35-M69_1.jpg |
Strut Mount
Thanx ! .
This thing makes a creaking noise when first it goes bad, followed by a clunking sound as it gets worse but not a rhythmic noise..... |
