Ticka ticka ticka noise

My 85 300D makes a ticka ticka ticka noise whenever the key is all the way on, engine running or not, like a relay or solenoid constantly tripping.

It seems to be coming from a metal gizmo just above and between the 2dary fuel filter, and the steering pump. It has a link to the accelerator mechanism on it, but no obvious wires!

Baffled!

Found the wire

I guess it must be the cruise control. I found a cable that comes from a 7 prong plug all the way to the drivers side of the engine compartment. When i pull that plug the noise quits.

Wondering why it is making that noise, and what if anything to do about it. I guess if i don't need cruise control i could just pull that plug.

Pulled the plug, no more tika tika

I pulled the 7 prong plug, and the noise went away, and i took her for a short drive, and ran normally. Still wondering what could cause that noise.

I have not noticed any recent treads on the Cruise Control. However, they are known not to faction correctly.

If it is something important to you people have replaced them with aftermarket ones.

The older ones were different more like the ones you see on US Cars that use vacuum.

Cruise control malfunction, servo applying and releasing.Repair or leave unplugged also remove linkage.
Throttle can be held on by cruise control, seen this happen on these cars,

Thanks again for helping me out with this!

I will remove the throttle link and keep the cruise control unplugged for now.

I nearly had an accident with a non-Mercedes Car because I did not know it but I had engaged the cruise control.

It was in city traffic. I let off on the accelerator pedal expecting the Car to slow down normally as I was approaching a Red Light with a Car in front of me. Because of the Cruise Control the Car stayed at the same speed instead of slowing. By the time I stopped I must have been like 2 inches from the Car in front of me.

On My Mercedes I removed it as I have never felt the need for cruise control. If you foot gets tired or pressing on the accelerator pedal it is time to pull over and take a break.

I also removed the cruise control from my US made Car and Van.
