Has anyone found replacement keys for aftermarket ignition tumbler
I lost one of the keys to my replaced-with-aftermarket ignition tumbler on the 84SD. I'd like to simply cut another key but the local hardware store needs an application to see if they had a blank that would work. None were obvious. Does anyone know what key blank Meyle or Febi uses for their aftermarket keys?
Let's not go down the path of recommending OE cylinders from the dealer. I only am trying to have an extra key and don't want to go to the dealer pay Mercedes prices because I'm not going to keep this car long.

Hardware stores won't have the blanks and generally do a poor job of cutting the keys. Go to a real locksmith. Probably going to cost about $30-$50 for a good steel key.

I went to real old school local lock smith - oldest crustiest I could find in my area of NJ - and he was able to visually inspect and order the right blanks for me within a week or so. Super cheap too.

Are the w126 aftermarket (Febi) keys different than the Mercedes?
I tore my ignition cylinder down on my W123 300d and it had a Febi cylinder. I rekeyed it to the original steel key that came with the car (that worked in the doors and trunk). So for my 300d they were the same. Oh my. Just checked the peach parts site for the 84 SD. They show a 123 cylinder and key! For both Febi and Mercedes. I guess I see the confusion. That’s kind of scary that I cannot get a w126 style core for my SD anymore. I guess you can try a 123 blank. My 240d used an Ilco MB41. You can get these blanks and many other variants on eBay.

The 126 style cylinders are NLA. The aftermarket ones (including the one you get from MB which is probably just a rebadged Febi) is the 123 style. The late 126 with the brake interlock can still get the 126 style cylinder (they were never made in 123 style), but they don't fit the early lock.

I'll just order another aftermarket tumbler and keep the one I have as a spare. I'll snag one of the locksmiths that deals with the car lots when it is convenient. This is a small issue compared to everything else.

In the past when I was looking for key blanks I found there is 2 thicknesses of them with the older ones (I have an 84 300D) being thinner.
These area all brass keys I have a Meyle Ignition Tumbler and it is .082 thick. The Meyle key has a narrower groove (the main groove that the teeth are not cut into) which means there is a wider solid metal area. ilico X82 alternate number MB41 is .085 thick The other key blank has For Mercedes on one side and MB41 on the other side. .086 thick
