The tone of this post is decidedly negative; it would be helpful to others, and probably to you also, if you would provide a number of pictures of the car, and of the transmission and shift linkage. The value of the box & shifting parts is sufficient to warrant a more positive attitude. The pic that was posted above is clearly of no use. |

it is a bit tough to get any pics of an installed transmission. I believe I have ID it as a w115 aluminum front steel case 4 speed. I'm trying to decide if it is worth laying on my back in the gravel and pulling it out. It doesn't seem like it from the WTB ads in the parts forum here.
I realize I have two threads going. did you know you can't post the same pic on this forum on two threads? or that the pic size is limited to very low res? it leads to cropping and "useless " photos. This isn't a for sale thread, I'm trying to get a bit of info from you nice folks and what I can find out about the car and its parts; if/ when I do have a for sale thread for specific parts I will definitely take lots of and better pics with part numbers where available.

If the driveshaft would work in my soon to be 4spd swap (aluminum box) 300D I would be potentially interested.
I almost won that car on copart, if we are speaking of the same car. White 300CD. Took a pretty good lick in the front end. Bid got a little higher than I was willing to pay after fees shipping etc etc

cool, thanks for the opinion. I think I am probably going to pull it and hang onto it, as it wouldn't take up too much space anyway.

well, I pulled the flywheel and it is, in fact, the heavy 300d flywheel. I even weighed it and my cheapo amazon scale said 36.5 pounds.
it has part number 6170320001 on it and I DID mark it before removing. it also says 83 and I am wondering if it wasn't actually an original FW to the car.... anyway I'm hanging onto it until I get my swap done in case I need to match balance it... thanks for all the help with trying to save what's worth saving out of this car.

Seeing as the car was previously an automatic, I assume, that flywheel is definitely not original to the car but must have come from a Euro 4 speed. It’s a pretty desirable flywheel though so that’s great for you, worth 400$ ish on a bad day. (Don’t quote me.) |

the numbers are all over the place from people who bought them for 100 at a junkyard to eBay from 1000..... and everything in between including shipping from Europe and NOS dealer!!
yea well it ran well when I drove it so I figured it is better than nothing right? I can try the match balance if I have issues and if not away it goes!!!

Turns out this bad boy had a 2.88 diff swapped in by a previous owner who I got in touch with! ..
I got it pulled out along with the CVS but I am not sure if it is LSD or not. It seems like it is based on what I know about open diffs, when turning the pinion both "want " to turn forwards and when holding one or the other it still tries to turn forwards;not opposite or neutral like I'd expect in an open diff. Is there any way to tell without taking off the cover? I looked and only found anecdotal evidence around the usual search. update: it isn't LSD I don't think, now. rotating the drive flanges causes the opposite wheel to turn in the opposite direction, I was only rotating the pinon and not the cv stubs individually. oh well, still a low rpm donor to go with the 4-speed swap package!! thanks again to everyone who was so helpful in figuring out the enigma! Limited slip was never an option that I know of. I made one many years ago by combining a 123 diff housing and the limited slip innards from a 190 16 valve.
