I just sold a 90 300D a couple of weeks ago for $1200. Zero rust. Very nice interior. Front bumper was cracked a little bit but thats about it. Sold the first day I had it listed. Maybe I sold it too cheap. The BAT crack fueled craze and the snowflakes have driven the prices way up.

California (the local AQMD specifically)will buy my old beater for $1000 and crush it just to get it off the road. At most my beaters are worth $2-3k if I find the right buyer. Honestly, it's not worth my time and effort to find that right buyer. I'd rather the state crush my diesel than deal with CL tards.

He'd only had a handful of calls and was about to sell it to a scrapper... go figure.
How is it that someone will advertise a car for 20 X scrap value then say they will scrap it if it does not sell? This kind of thing seems to be stated in ads where the car is being sold for 3 X scrap.

I've seen ads where someone is selling a car for $ 300 non title but $ 600 if you are handed the title.

Seems that this type of person just wants to exert some sort of dominance over someone that wants a particular car in order to make their miserable lives more exciting.

Wasn't like that at all, actually. He mentioned it, kinda off-hand, after the sale was made, while thanking me for buying the car. The vehicle belonged to his father-in-law and they inherited it after he passed. They had owned it for a couple of years since. He stopped driving it daily once they bought a Prius. His wife had wanted it gone because it reminded her of her dad. Seller was glad it was going to someone who would drive it and keep it on the road.

You know the old saying, "If mama ain't happy..."?

Somehow the idea of crushing a car doesn't agree with me. There are parts that might keep an older car on the road.
Yeah it might be a hassle to deal with the craigslist yahoo's but destroying something that is still useable is a waste.
Before selling your car to the crusher give an enthusiast the chance to buy the car for parts.
I bought an Alfa Romeo for parts. No title. It's back on the road with a rebuilt title. No rust.

Talking Reality Check

This is so and most of them will clock more miles sans repairs than a W123 as long as you do it within 5 years .

On the other hand : regardless of miles, few vehicle made in the last 20 years will be operable in another ten years and very few indeed make you smile when you're thinking about driving it somewhere, anywhere.....

I'm far from home in the High Desert in my 34 year old 375,+++ miles 240D and smiling the whole way .

The seats are comfy for my broken back & neck, the AC is ice cold (thanx Rich !) and I have no worries about driving it home or to New York to - morrow if I want to .

?Did I mention four up with extra room on the trunk and the rear seat passengers are cool & comfy too ? .

Keep your new over priced junk .

Yes, I know this isn't everyone's possible reality .

So here’s a good example:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F113708812890

Nice color, looks pristine.

Is it a $12k car in a soft diesel market? I’m not sure it’s a $5k or $8k car. Not sure it’s even a $10k car being so clean. They did drop it from $14k iirc.

I’d heavily consider buying it if aI didn’t have eyes on other models.

But unless we cannot trust the odometer and have reasons to think it isn’t what it is, seems like a good example of what is becoming an enthusiast niche car that draws more money than its age and mileage would necessarily initially imply.

Though mine has more than 3 x the mileage I don't think this is worth 10 x what I paid for mine.

These things are exponential. I have every reason to think that 1/3 the mileage would bring 10x the price. Especially when you’re talking 100k vs 300k miles and $1200 vs $12k.

The question is if your car is anywhere near as nice.
