Missing Turn Signal Sound

1985 300 CD

Is it the turn signal relay that makes the sound for the turn signalsin this car? My turn signals work, but there is no blinker noise, the turn signals are silent.

I " think " the turn signal relay is under hood and the clicker is a relay without contacts in the instrument cluster. I'd expect a pair of diodes with one hooked to each instrument cluster turn signal indicator and both hooked to the clicker.

Past that, I'd need a wiring diagram to ID parts.

The flasher relay makes the sound. However, mine are very quiet. I believe the flasher relay on your car is behind the Instrument Cluster.

I always thought the clicking sound comes from the 4 way flasher switch in the console. I know with the 4 way flasher switch disconnected the turn signals will not work.

On my 126es the clicking comes from a seemingly out of place relay on the back of the instrument cluster. My 107 does not have this and is nearly silent when clicking. The relay for the flasher is inside the dash and doesn't make much noise. Look for a relay on the back of the cluster, if present, it should make the clicking noise when the turn signal or hazards are active.

Try activating the emergency flasher and let they run a bit and turn them off see if that changes anything an also is there nose when the emergency flashers are own?

I was under the impression that on older cars with the big hazard button, that clicks. On the newer ones with the small hazard button, that and the seatbelt warning comes from a small black box mounted to the cluster.

Headlight warning, seatbelt warning and clicking may be different though...

My 1985 300D does not have a black box mounted to the gauge cluster. I am pretty sure the turn signal clicking sound comes from the 4 way flasher switch mounted in the console.
