Wanted to post a follow-up. Thanks for taking the interest and time to prod me along with this subject.....or, as I like to say "grappling with the flawed technology".
The solution was as simple as commandeering my wife's HP laptop (window based). Everything works fine with that. Never dawned on me to try that approach. Hard to get "time" on that unit, anyway...
Haven't put Firefox on the Apple, yet. Since it works fine for Deseasel, and his Mac, should also be a good "fix" for me.
Thanks a bunch, guys. Big help (old guy, NOT computer savvy. Especially across different platforms). It's really great having access to some official MB documentation!!

Glow Plug Wire colors on the square Connector and where they go. 84 300D
Here is a description of the numbered sockets:

1) rd/bk (Black) ignition switch (Voltage goes thorugh this to turn on the Glow Plug Relay, if you cut the Wire and wired a push button Switch to it and your GP realy is still good you could use the button Switch to turn the Glow Plugs on and retain the feature that tuns the Glow Plugs on while the Engine is cranking bay way of the Purple Wire on a W123. I also believe the Glow Plug Light would still work if you do this.)

2) vi (Violet/Purple) On turbo models goes to a Wire Terminal/Junction block and mates with a White Wire coming up from the Starter Solenoid. When you Crank the Starter + Voltages goes through the White Wire to the Violet one and turns the Glow Plug Relay On. (You could disconnect this wire at the Terminal Block or the small Terminal at the Starter Solenoid and wire it to a push button Switch.)

3) blu/wt (Blue with white strip)glow indicator Light

4) br (Brown)ground

The earlier models with the glow plug relay on the fender well will have an additional wire that goes to a temp sensor in the Cylinder head.

Relay pinout

Hey, thanks Diesel911. Always beneficial to know "what goes to what". I guess the wire color codes are different on my 240D. The wire that is attached to glow plug lamp, on the instrument panel, is green with a black stripe.
The wiring diagram in the Haynes shows it as a solid black wire.
I have yet to check the MB wiring print as I just got access to Startek. I'd imagine it's possible MB (and other mfg)used different colored wires, here and there, due to shortages or surplus?
Can't always trust the color codes, but what is connected to what, according to the wiring diagram, is the important thing.....

The wire color is not as important as the actual numbers on the connector.

The connector comes apart an you can see which wire goes to which number.

Relay pinout

Thanks Diesel!! I concur...great close-up BTW! I'll "check back" as soon as I get some time to work on "my car", as opposed to everyone else's...lol
Relatives in town for the holiday weekend. My niece drove her '04 Infiniti G35x from Philly to Pgh with (unbeknownst to her) a bad front wheel bearing and cv axle with split boots. She said, "my car is making a noise"....lol Guess what I'm working on? I'm just glad it didn't fail on her, somewhere between here and there, in the Allegheny mountains.....

Glow plug system

Good news. Thanks to all who assisted. New set of Bosch glow plugs today. Prior to installation, reamed all holes (Thanks, Kent, for the great tool). Checked all the wiring, relay, etc. All seems to be in order. After installing the new plugs, turned key, and the system worked "as advertised". Glow plug light on dash illuminated, relay clicked on then off after it timed out, car fired up "like a champ" and idled better than I've ever experienced since I got her (about 2 months ago).
Thanks, again, for all the help, information and experience. Appreciate it all very much.
