I'm in the same boat as some of the others on this thread, my "improved" mounting bracket from ************** broke pretty quickly. My engine is not that smooth so I really want to ditch the damn thing and go to a cone type with an oil catch can.

Does anyone have longer-term experience using these?

Does anyone have any experience or evidence of damage caused by these aftermarket filters?

Red face Dazed & Confused

And fat fingers...

Yes, the 20MM bolt was too short .

The threads are 8X.125MM, considered a coarse thread .

I measured the length at the time, until I break another T bracket you'll have to wait....

Yes. I put such a system on my 300CD and removed it after about a month. It simplified access and appearance in the engine compartment and eliminated the common problem you stated. The reason I removed it mainly was because of noise. It sounded good to me at first then became embarrassing.

Must be a US turbo thing. My UK supplied 300D NA is still on its original mounts. And it comes with a Cold Air intake from the factory. Could the issue be rough idle that needs sorting?

Yes yes everyone says to sort out the rough idle!

Of course, that is the overall goal a lot of us have with these engines but there are so many issues that cause rough idle so that's easier said than done. If the filtration is not affected and I can remove a common failure point that is noisy and is a pain to work on, I'm going to do that!

I didn't notice any change in noise when I briefly tested a cone filter and pushed the throttle a few times but I think I will try an alternative using the cone and see how it goes. I don't want my car making obnoxious sounds but if it's not too bad I'm live with it.

I will be converting to an alternative air cleaner soon, this cleaner and mount are a joke. I was reassembling the air cleaner after doing the turbo drain tube seals (which was a success thankfully!) I discovered that the seals on the 180-degree tube that goes from the air cleaner to the turbo are gone. I have ordered every possible combination of seals from the usual merchants and they are all only *one* size, the larger one that goes onto the air cleaner. Does anyone know the actual part number for the smaller seal that goes around the turbo inlet???

This is my 1980 300sd. Bracket was broken so I decided to try out something. The breather is a Chinese knockoff of the Mann and Hummel provent 200.
