82 300sd quits running when put into gear

I am new to the forum. I have an 82 300sd that quits running when you put it in gear, rev it up and let off, or come to a stop. I have adjusted the injection pump bolt, removed the egr and capped off each port, and it is running out of a jug of diesel. I have and 84 that is running the same way. I replaced the injection pump bolt with a used one that had better spring tension and it ran and idled great for awhile, but it is running about the same now. Is the bolt a wear item? Does the pin on the tip wear down? The old one looks like it does. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. Oh yeah, the 82 is idiling good, but the 84 has a poor idle that lopes sometimes like it has a big cam in it. When I removed the egr on the 82 it was coked up bad. It was a good move even if it didn't help. Thanks again.

How does it idle in general? The two usual culprits for that issue are a tight rack dampener bolt, or idle speed set too low. Should be around 700-750rpm ideally.

Fuel filters all good? Could also be a weak fuel lift pump.

The 82 idles good and revs up good. It dies when you let off. I have a fuel adjustment bolt ordered. When I replaced the bolt in my 84 it was like night and day, but it didn't last long. The pin on the bolt is a wear item, right? I would think that it wears and decreases in length. Is that correct? Both cars have good power going down the road and I replaced the lift pump in the 84 a few years ago. A Bosch pump. Thanks so much for the reply.
