82 240d fires but won’t keep running

As the title says.
I’m stuck in a parking lot.
Engine cranks, fires up but won’t keep running. Feels like the fuel supply is restricted.

If anybody has an idea, else I need a tow truck.

Sounds fuel related as already stated.

Remove the fuel cap and see what happens. Could be clogged tank vent.

A couple weeks ago, the car started but couldn't get more than 700rpm. A crawl. I was thinking hard about fuel delivery. After 20 minutes of driving with flashers, I disconnected the vacuum to the shut off on the back of the injection pump. I think I had the vacuum lines reversed on the ignition switch. The little vacuum switch failed and sent vacuum to the shut off all the time. Back to normal. Whew!

Guys, thank you so much for coming to the rescue so quickly!!

It was the steel cable running from the accelerator linkage (by the 'stop button') to the dash where you manually adjust the idle speed (on the dial).
It was stuck in the forward position allowing the linkage to drop too close to the 'stop' position.

Heck knows why it was stuck there. I probably was playing with the dial and turned it too low this afternoon.

I 'unstuck' it, it fired and ran as it is supposed to.
However, I jumped into the car and made the 30 mile run to get home.

It's fine now. I gave it a good WD40 soak, checked the cable fitting and adjusted the nut a little, so the linkage won't drop that low again.

It's my Patina Racer. 4-speed manual, runs like a Champ.
All moving parts under the car from front to rear have been replaced about 6 months ago.
Valve adjustment, new vacuum pump etc.
Too much to list, including the fuel system, tank, lines, screen, filters etc have been cleaned and renewed.

Just an "Old Car Clitch", I suppose.

Check the idle stop screw on the back side of injection pump. The tension of the wire of your idle speed adjuster is not your idle speed stop. At warmed up idle there should be some slack in that wire with the idle stop screw being the resting point of the linkage. Even though it's an '82 you must have the manual adjustment like my '81.
