Visually impressive almost beyond measure. That fundamental engine series was a high production level engine in their enterprise. Perhaps exceeded only by the Mercedes six cylinder gas engines.

Eye candy is a term I usually apply only to some of the ladies. I suspect what you are going to install it in. As do many others. It may be the first 617 taken to this level.

Engine in the bay

We got the engine in the bay, and most of the under-car items hooked up/installed. We won't be able to get it finished today, as Blue has to head back home to Oregon. Next time he comes, more engine bay parts will get restored and installed. It is quite a lot of work to clean, paint, and otherwise restore EVERYTHING that goes back on the engine and/or car. Nothing is left untouched. Blue wants to be involved in every aspect of the restoration, so I will not be working on the car without him. That is good, because Blue is quite meticulous. It will pay off big, as the car/engine bay will be award winning when finished. By the way, that is Blue kissing the turbo, and I am sure you would do the same if you had an engine that looked like that!!!

The engine bolted in awaiting completion. Also, the valve cover that is on the engine now will get replaced after the car is finished and running. He has a friend that is engraving his highly polished cover with some quite incredible art work.

Finally done!!!

Just yesterday Blue drove his car off into the sunset. We worked for two days finishing up on many details, and got everything done a little before dark. He also got to the A/C shop just before closing, and got the all new system vacuumed and charged. He loaded up all the parts that he needed to bring home with him, and they took the entire cargo area and roof rack! He had to change the oil at 400 miles into the trip (recommendation from Metric Motors). I got a call the next day, and he made it home (Southern Oregon) safely. Here are a few photos of the finished project.

OM617 Eye Candy

Blue had a friend (column87_ on instagram) hand engrave his valve cover and he installed it the other day. Here are some photos of the finished product:

I love the fact its in a pretty well used wagon. I'll be honest I prefer the stock valve cover and air cleaner but I'm a purist. I guess this is more like art though so its up to the artist in terms of what is on the canvas.

I haven't been to Hesperia in a few years and although it isn't the best of towns it feels like a second home to me. I remember telling you I lived there for a bit. I used to go to Martinez Meats all the time for tacos, the best tacos in the world mind you. Maybe you've been there (hopefully).

I dig it. My wagon is a bit of an art car as well. I'd be too scared to have anything polished and fancy though. The thought of a scratch or smudge would give me constant anxiety. LOL
