Nozzle Newbie

EDIT: This is a duplicate post, as I did not realize it required moderation first. I thought it was a technical error. Please ignore. =)

I've acquired a very nice 1982 240D and have been doing some of the maintenance items I haven't been able to verify (fluids, filters, etc.) I would like to have the injectors rebuilt and am new to diesels and therefore, nozzles.

I've found the following German site (DTP), and they appear to have German nozzles:

DTP Motorteile GmbH

My question is, are all DN 0 SD XXX nozzles technicaly compatible with the 616/617? Of particular interest to me are the DN 0 SD 1930 (on page 2), which reference the old(?) Bosch 1930 part number. I have heard these are economical from a fuel standpoint.

If these are not just flat out bad for my engine, I would be willing to try them and report back. I know it wouldn't be apples to apples, as I'd be replacing my worn nozzles of fairly unknown mileage, somewhere around 160k, with something new.

I love the car, and it's not nearly as gutless as I was expecting. I drive conservatively, and fuel economy has been a hobby of mine. I don't expect magic in a W123, but my first two tanks have averaged 29mpg, which I'm pretty pleased with.

I am looking at the site and I am not seeing anything that indicates the nozzles are made in Germany.

The genuine Bosch Nozzle that would be for your vehicle has for a long time now been made in India and has less then the best reputation.

That's a good point. I saw "Germany" on the nozzles in the images and I guess I assumed. I inquired yesterday and received the following response:

"We work with different first equipment manufacturers throughout Europe including Germany."

Well, they didn't say China...

I will report back when they arrive!

There is several makers of Nozzles in Italy. When I first rebuilt my Mercedes Injectors and also my Volvo Diesel Injectors with Brand x Nozzles the Country of origin was not on them. One only had the Nozzle Number and the other had 7Diesel on them. I ask the seller and he said they were from Italy.

Also if you pick one of the nozzles at the site you posted and click on details and then page down you will see a list of companies and part number interchanges of companies that make the same style of nozzle.

I just put 5x Firad DN0SD314s from idparts in my 617, balanced all the injectors to just a hair above the 135 bar spec (around 2100 psi), and they are impressive.

Smoothed up how the car runs, and makes a mountain more low end power.

I'm not sure what size they are, they are the stock size for the 606 engines, which is supposedly "one size" larger than the stock 617 nozzles.

I wish they had better info like with cummins injectors, 5x.009, 5x.010 etc.
