Help with Dash Light Mystery

I'm hoping I can get an idea on what to check regarding my brake and battery lights on our 1980 300SD. Here is the scenario - pull into garage, apply parking brake, turn off car, go about my business. Get in car, turn on key to warm plugs and both battery and brake light indicators are on. Battery light goes off and once I release the parking brake.

Only happens when parking brake is applied.

Any idea where I should start?
