79 SD temp.

Can anyone give me an idea of the regular operating temp. of the 617 in the 116 body. I have read many posts re: the temp. for the latter models, and the standard seems to be about 150f (my guage is in f). I run consistently at about 180-190. Perhaps I should try a new thermostat. Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to try a new t-stat. Try the ones from Auto-Zone, I've heard good things about them and bad things about the ones from the dealer. Have you done the usual things: completely flush out the cooling system with cleaner? Replace the coolant with Havoline Long Life Orange? Are you using Water Wetter? Should Be.

Thanks, Bill. That damn needle sits so high on the guage, it's hard not to question it. I'll not worry about it.

I am almost dead on 190 F, summer, winter spring and fall. Last week, during the 90+ weather, I hit about 215 F, with AC on and running about 75 MPH, checked the coolant level when I got home and I was a tad low.

Your result sounds normal to me, as when checking with PO, my dad, my car has had the operating temperature characteristics noted above since it was new.

Leave it alone, except for possibly the new radiator cap and checking the coolant level.

Don't worry, be happy.

Or.........have the MB chick look at it, she seems to know what she's doing.
