Delo 400XSP vs Rotella T6
Looks like Rotella T6 is a superior oil.
https://youtu.be/T-yt5a1cWd4 Switching back to T6 because of this.

PF's testing is fantastic, but in the real world it makes no difference. Your engine will need a rebuild due to excessive blowby long before either of the oils tested makes a difference. Both are lightyears ahead of what was available when the engines were designed.
Buy whatever's cheaper when you need oil, and rock on. In this day and age, "which oil is best?" is an incredibly solved problem, and lucky for us the answer is "pretty much all of them."

You're right, the difference is so minute it's hair splitting. I think Delo is usually cheaper.

Due to the VW Jetta, I use the Castrol Edge 5w-40 in all my diesels.

Project farm is awesome.
Ps. Costco is now selling 15/40 diesel oil. I’m currently using it and can confirm that it is not in fact filled with pure danger.

How bad was the issue? There were no 2007 tdis sold at least in Canada until they Got a new engine for the 2008 TDIs . Obviously even their rated oil did not over come the problem. I too have one. |

I use Liqui Moly MOS2 15W40 ( as a former Rotella user for many years). I get a measured and constant 1 mpg more per tank, smoother low speed acceleration and reduced idle noise in my 300D.

For the 617, whatever 5w40 is on sale when I need oil is what I grab. Think that's been Rotella the last few changes.
Girlfriend's '13 TDI gets Lubri Moly, just because it's the 507.00 spec oil the local Napa carries. Might be 501.00, don't remember. Reminds me, I need to check it. The Forester and Element get whatever 5w-30 conventional is on sale. Havoline or Chevron(same stuff, different color jug) run a rebate deal every so often and I stock up, brings the cost down to a buck and change per quart.

5W40 is great for winter starting compared to 15W40. It brings my 'don't even worry about it' temp down from 10F to 0F or a bit lower.

Total Quartz Energy 9000 5w40 is my go-to oil for old diesels. It has MB 229.5, BMW LL-01, VW 502/505.00 and Porsche A40. Total QE9000 gets a lot of praise on the Bob Oil Guy site forums. It also costs a few dollars less than Rotella T6. It's a rare day when a top rated product is also the least expensive, but here it is. Haven't seen it in stores, I order online, usually add it when I'm already placing an order for parts.
