w123 oil cooling lines
Can anyone tell me the parts numbers for the cooling lines on a '83 Mercedes Benz 240d oil cooling lines? I don't know, if both of the lines are the same or not? They are both at the bottom of the unit. Also, do they use any O-rings on the connections?

The top lines are available here.
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/6161870682MBZ.htm?pn=616-187-06-82-MBZ&bt=Y&fs=0&SVSVSI=3204 Bottom line is not. I purchased a TRUCKTEK one for my 300D swapped 240D. Not sure if that fits a 240D but you can cross reference P/N's https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NU2YFVU There are no O-rings. You will probably strip the threads off of the fitting on the bottom of the oil cooler when you remove the line. Be prepared to cut off the old fitting and then drill and tap a new fitting into the cooler. There is quite a bit of documentation on here around fixing the oil cooler once the threads come off when you remove the line. Good luck this job is a pain. But if you're patient and plan a few days to get it done you'll have no more oily weeping leaking lines.

Both of mine go into the bottom of the cooling unit. They are different lines it looks like both of them are different. I saw the top line out there, but I didn't see any info for the bottom lines hook up. Looking at some threads at some year they must have changed the design? Can the hoses be replaced effectively on my cooling lines after removing them?

As to replacing the rubber hoses, yes, it can be done. You're not going to have much luck at a hose shop in the US (not sure where you are) as the fittings and hoses are metric. What I've done is to measure the straightened length of the hoses, cut off the crimp fittings and had AN bungs welded on. That way I can replace the hoses by using AN crimp fittings. DO NOT put a new section of hose on and secure it with hose clamps. I know a few folks have tried this and believe it to be a decent fix. With the pressure going through those hoses, hose clamps aren't a good idea. This can be a situation were a bad repair can be fatal to your engine, it's not the place to cheap out. For AN fittings look here. Converting Oil Cooler Lines To AN Stainless Braided Hose

There is at least 2 extensive threads on replacing only the Oil Cooler Hose. If you are going to do that don't risk stripping the Oil Cooler Nipple threads and leave the Hose nuts on the Oil cooler.
I don't know if the Oil Cooler Hose is the same size on the 240D but on mine the correct inside diameter is 15mm. Bellmetric sells Choline Oil Cooler Hose by the Meter and one Meter is enough for both hoses. The next issue is which clamps to use and I used 2 clamps on each hose end. The Choline part number for the Hose is 1233 1300 Inside diameter of 15mm and a outside diameter of 23mm My Oil Cooler Hose Thread I am not sure I the photobucket pics show up anymore. I started out with 5/8 inside diameter hose which was actually a loose fit and drove with that for several years but finally found a source of the much needed 15mm hose and changed to that. Note that once you setup for just the hose it is easy to change the hose. Yeah I followed Bill Grissom and others and rebuilt my hoses using #12. Goodyear Galaxy barrier hose (AC line) and a Chinese mastercool crimp tool. It worked very well. Holding well. They look built for life rather than the non OE ones I put on my SD (pre Trucktec) that started weeping a small amount of oil after five years. The Goodyear hose is very sturdy.
I have some photos in my 300d thread. Got a 1985 300D turbo Post #149
