amount of time to change transmission fluid in 1984 300DT

I need to set aside enough time to change the transmission fluid in the 1984 300DT. I want to change out both the tranny and the torque converter.

Is it best to allow the old fluid to drain out overnight? I'm thinking around 4 - 6 hours to change it out.

There is very little benefit in letting in drain all night. If it is convenient to do so then yes do it, if inconvenient then don't.

Time 4 hours on the high end... probably closer to 2.5 if you are new to the process and need to find tools etc.

Don't overtighten the pan.

Good luck!!!

Make sure you get the seal for the torque converter drain too. It will be much easier with a helper to line up the drain plug otherwise it may take a while of turning the engine slightly and crawling under to check.

Any benefit of getting the last mL out is outweighed by potential contamination associated with leaving the transmission open to the atmosphere. Just change the fluid and be done

Are you saying purchase a new seal for both the drain plug and the torque converter drain plug? Can I buy the new seals from the dealer? Do you know the mercedes benz part number for the seals?
