I own a rwd M112, in my 2001 e320 wagon. Its a pretty quick machine, but fairly terrible in the snow even with decent tires.

My GLK is 4matic but the immense torque off the line of the OM651 completely absorbs the performance loss on the older gas 4matic cars. Nothing like having 369ft lbs at 1,600rpm! Have to be careful even with 4matic as it will break the tires loose in the right conditions (all of them) pretty easily if you're at 100% throttle.

My dad's SL500 moves nice and quick, as does my brother's E400....that will REALLY move. (330 HP + 358lb torque at 1,500rpm)

That's definitely wrong, the one for the 722.6 is about $175, plus fluid, dipstick, new harness connector, etc, I have done one of those before and it was a big job but doable, the 722.9 is for sure dealer only (they don't even sell them separately at all, and is at least $1,800, some of them are more because the valve body has to be replaced too.

Get snow tires. All seasons are marketing nonsense. My 04 rwd E320 wagon has no problem on Bridgestone blizzaks. 4matic might help you go but it won't help you stop. Only snow tires can help you stop.

I've been using snow tires for over 13 years...on my good vehicles. I have a set on my GLK and Metris. However, I am not spending $1,500 on a set of wheels and snow tires for a E320 wagon worth $1000. It has Michelin defenders on it right now which work well enough for the handful of times I need to use it in the snow.
