Any alternative to bushing tool?
Any alternative to replacing the control arm bushings in the rear on a w210 other than that tool from baum that’s $280? I understand I could take it apart and take it to a machine shop but that is a lot more trouble than it’s worth time wise. What am curious is if I could rig together and make my own tool to remove and replace those Bushings.

rear control arm bushings? - you mean the rear one in the front control arm? or the actual rear wheel control arms?
the rear wheel arm bushings are not sold - the only bushing you will find for the rear is the "balljoint" one that connects the spring arm to the spindle - That can be removed and installed with a couple of sockets and a strong bolt and nut. |
If that is the same as the ball joint / bushing in the rear wheel carrier on a 124, I have used the Sir Tools version of the special press, and it works fine but you must either remove the heat shield or bend it out of the way to get a clean shot at the joint. If you get the tool off just a little bit, the tool will get sideways and ruined, because it is made from soft steel. Took me two tools at about $75 per tool to replace 4 ball joint / bushings.
