Totally agree. Having had cars with all three engines available in America, I love the driving experience of the CDI (and Bluetec) way more than the M112. The Bluetec driving experience is very similar to the CDI, but has proved to be more problematic in my experience (engine and transmission issues). However, the T model is so useful with it's utilitarian aspects, I am not complaining about it's lower MPG's compared to the Diesels. It still has plenty of power to tow my trailers, and haul whatever I need to. One day I may get the chance to do a CDI engine swap into the T. That would be the ultimate 211!......Rich

The 2006 CDI of mine delivers a high of 41 mpg - strictly while on the highway. Around town on surface streets? 23 mpg or so. Around town in the traffic of the Interstates? Maybe 30 mpg or so. This,; according to the on board meter. I believe that it is about 10% optimistic, is what's been deduced here on-forum about 6 years ago.

My low-mileage 06 CDI has been a great car for me the past 7 years. I've only driven it 18K miles.

You've posted in Diesel Discussion Forum.

Lol yes, feels weird to post about a gasser here, just posted it in relation to the early part of this thread.

I posted earlier in the thread I found the W211 not so reliable, and now it blows a year-old airmatic strut to emphasize it for me.

Glad to see others enjoying theirs.

Should buy a diesel instead. Old gassers aren't much in demand. I actually found in my tech manual the air ride was also available on the 06 CDI diesel. Strange, but true.

Yeah, maybe if a nice one without Airmatic comes up. CDI's are really a nice leap from the 617's and 603's I grew up around!

You can always convert airmatic to coil springs. They're dirt cheap and readily available.

The fact remains the m112/m113 is more reliable and cheaper to own than the om648.

My parents bought new 220 and 240 diesels in the '60s and '70s. I learned never to buy an MB Gasser at an early age.......

True on the conversion option, hadnt thought of that.

Havent run an OM648, I do agree that M112/3's have been reliable so far.

Lol can relate...I was made in the late '70's, and through the 80's I was around everything from 107's, 113's, 108's, 116's 126's, 201's, 123's and 124's. It was always the diesels I was riding in though.

I have fond memories of 123 diesel wagons, long road trips in the third row all the way to learning to drive in one.

Gawd I cant believe it was so long ago. Now I need to find me a 123 wagon!

I have a couple for sale in So. Cal. One project car with new paint, and the other: 627,000 miles on the original engine, and runs great!
