diesel in gas. It will I understand cause immediate expensive harm. Gas in a diesel will harm but it will take some time to manifest itself.

A little gasoline in the diesel usually survives and just runs poorly. I'd be mostly concerned with injection pump lubricity problems. The extra volatility of the gasoline possibly even being a bonus for us hard-to-start diesels in the frigid weather lol.
The other way around usually doesn't fare too well... diesel swells rubber very quickly for anything that isn't rated for it.
