My '99 E300 still used the conventional 90 degree twist on/off filler cap. I did have to replace it @ 100K because it was leaking.
However, by '05, the technological advances in dealing with diesel engine blow-by seem to be solved with the I6 CDI configuration. The oil filler cap screws on, and drains into a captive dish before draining back into the engine. So, that ends leaking over the valve cover as previous models.
