W124 facelift fenders/hood on pre-facelift model?
The hood and front fenders on my 1987 300TD are pretty rough with both dents and failed clear coat. I have access to a good condition 1995 E420 parts car and am hoping to get a few definitive answers around fender and hood swap (i've searched through a lot of threads but haven't found the definitive answers I'm looking for)
Hood: 1. Will the facelift hood work with the depot euro lights I currently have installed, or do I need to install the stock 95 headlights from the parts car. I know the hood will not work with the pre-facelift headlights, but I'm not sure about the aftermarket depot brand euro lights? 2. Will the facelift hood work with pre-facelift fenders if I only swap the hoods? Has anyone done this and how does it look if just the hood is changed on a pre-facelift model? Fenders: 1. The 95 fenders have the lower facelift cladding but I do not plan to update the whole vehicle with the cladding. How hard is it to remove the cladding from the facelift fenders? Will removing the cladding leave a bunch of visible holes that need to be filled (or are they covered by the pre-facelift trim piece?) 2. Do the 95 fenders work with the pre-facelift front bumper? thanks! |

I am sure they have no answers on any after market fits, but LKQ website is a good database for what fits what.

Hoods and fenders interchange through all years of the W124.
If you want to put a 94/95 hood on an earlier model, you need 94/95 headlights that have depressions on the glass to fit the hood extensions. If you have euro lights, you can swap out the lenses for 94/95 lenses. Depo euro lights come in both 86-93 and 94-95 versions so if you have 86-93 Depos you will need to replace them or do a 94-95 lens swap to use them with a 94-95 hood. All fenders 86-95 interchange and will work with any year bumper. They all have the same holes, you can put rub strips or cladding. E500 is the only exception of course with their wider fenders. |

Facelift hood will work with older fenders, no need to go down that path for the facelift look.

Thanks all, this is exactly the info I was looking for.
To clarify, I'm not necessarily looking for the facelift look, rather my current hood and bumpers are pretty trashed from a PO. I have access to good condition bumpers and hood they just happen to be on a later model facelifted e420. |

Cant close the hood. Hood would hit the headlight lens.

Is there a source for buying just the lenses for depo lights? I'm only aware of depo lights being sold on ebay.

^I see a lot of Depo lenses for sale on ebay.
Check the details on ads, many dont mention on the titles but if you open the ads you will see in the details a lot are Depo. |
