Fines like that should be MORE prevalent and should go after people roaring around in Cat-deleted gassers too. For those of us who spend the $$ to keep their car running cleanly and properly its pretty irritating to sit behind a vehicle in traffic that is neglected or purposely polluting hundreds of times more.

Some states require inspections while others do not. And, we all know the stories about slipping a state inspection owner a few hundred dollars to, uh, hem, pass the car (cough cough).

I'm all for inspections. In a state where we have tons of snow every year I am so sick of seeing cars sitting parked with bald tires and shot brakes/severe rust/other neglect. Its not just a pollution issue, its a safety one.

I've never understood why the state's don't get biodiesel going. Some time back, Willie Nelson was trying to get his biodiesel product sold through the Love's Country Store chain. It never got off the ground. My understanding is that biodiesel burns much cleaner than dyno diesel.

I'm convinced the only way I'm going to run biodiesel is to make it myself.

it was going pretty good way back in the late 2000's. I used to run B20-B100 in my 300SD all the time, then it faded away as oil got cheaper. Modern diesels also can't really safely run it due to the extremely high injection pressures. (10x the old ones or more)

Biodiesel competes with food production
It can't be cheaply produced at the scale required to replace Petro diesel
Even renewable diesel which is far superior to biodiesel in every way still can't be produced economically.
In the meantime the cost and energy density of batteries keeps improving.

There is no way to stop the electric car. The electric motor was always superior to the internal combustion engine. It was simply the gas tank was far ahead of the battery and that kept the fossil fuel industry alive. Now that is about to change. The batteries will improve and their electrical charge will come from cheaper and cleaner sources than fossil fuel can provide.Drive your diesel while you can and enjoy it. It is the steam locomotive of the future...

When I lived in Wisconsin the police would pull you over if they suspected you had bio diesel in the tank (old Mercedes. Biodiesel stickers..French fry smell) test the tank for the proper green diesel, then write you a $10k ticket.

I'm talking about biodiesel availability at the pump where all federal road taxes are paid. Remember, we have to pay ten times the actual price of diesel and gasoline so we can continue to enjoy pot hole ridden streets, roads and highways.

Post Bio Diesel Fuel

ProPel in California is selling this and it's *very* popular .

My son swears his 2003 Chevy diesel truck (doesn't smoke) run noticably better and better MPG's on it, I don't see any difference but it's O.K.stuff so I use it .

I get about the same MPGs, a bit more power on Propel HPR. Good stuff. Based on palm oil I think.

It costs $7/gallon to produce and ship from Singapore. It's only available because state law compels the large petro fuel retailers to subsidize it. That's why it's been limited to just 21 pumps in the state for the last 5 years. It's great if you can get it but it's completely unviable on a larger scale. I'm a huge fan of Propel HPR (aka renewable diesel) and it'll never displace #2 diesel.
