w123 coupe owners, rear interior quarter trim

I think this might be the worst engineered part of our cars. Once you pull out the rear interior quarter trim (Coupe only) it will never fit correctly back into the strange piece near the window. )Please ignore the fact that the colors don't match each other.)

Does anyone have a solution to this?

If/when you figure something out I'd like to know. I've got two W123 coupes with the same problem. I've been toying with the idea of possibly using a 3D printer to make a new bit.

Maybe making a mold and forming one from fiberglass? Don't know how well fiberglass would hold up to U-V rays.

This morning I took mine in to a body shop to have them look at it. He said, "Oh, I can fix that in ten minutes" We'll see about that. I'll pay him $100 for his "ten minutes" of time. I'll let you know if he does it and share with you. Also, let me know if you make any progress. First world problems!!!!

I have owned 3 w123 coupes over the years and on all three needed to pull the rear panels to repair the window mechanisms. Unfortunately I only came close to a good fit when replacing the panel.

Well guys, I have good news and bad news. My guy was able to fit the pieces correctly. The bad news is that he couldn't tell anything other than "magic" as his way of doing it. But, as you can see, they are well fitted. I gladly paid him $140 to do both sides. He also corrected the color. (BTW, it would sure be nice if there were an obvious way to rotate a picture to the correct orientation)

I wonder what was the magic he used? Some kind of spreader?? Can’t be that out of the ordinary, though $140 is probably 1-2 hours of work.

You don’t have a location. Who/where is this guy located? Folks with coupes might want to line up his expertise if ever in the neighborhood.

Bummer. A bit too far of a drive for me.
