One of my E300's has 300K on it and it is just fine, does not burn a drop of oil, transmission shifts perfect. I would not be scared to buy a 250k mile 210 that was properly maintained.

The one I used to have had 275k when I bought it, and probably the original fluid. I changed it and it mostly drove ok, but the torque converter whined when it was cold and it would bang into gear when it was cold taking off from a stop, and it would slip on freeway on-ramps sometimes. The suspension was also pretty worn out by that mileage. Other than that it wasn't bad though. Also, these have issues with getting new keys apparently, you can get one that works sometimes for ~$300, but it's more like several thousand or more (I heard $8k but not certain on that) to replace all the modules so they will work properly with a new key.

Changing/getting to the fuel lines under the intercooler tube is a PITA. Rust in the doors. Rust in the front shock towers. Computer display - errant wheel sensor problems. My car still has that malady. My brother owns the car now. It's a 400,000+ mile car - easy. |

"So is the 727 transmission." Don't you mean the 722.6? "Changing/getting to the fuel lines under the intercooler tube is a PITA." Don't you mean the intake manifold?

You just take the intake manifold off to change the lines (and do them all, along with the shutoff valve o-ring), and remember the bolt underneath where the pipe from the intercooler attaches when you remove the intake.

That small bolt under the manifold where the intercooler pipe fits up, get yourself a bolt about 3 inches long and weld a nut to it leaving the correct amount of thread one side to hold the pipe on and the other end weld a bit of bar to make at handle and then the jobs easy.
Rough gear change on high mileage box can be broken pressure regulator spring , I have removed one when changing speed sensor plate, and it was if I remember correctly in five pieces. It caused a rough 2-1 in slow traffic often with a thump. Its a two dollar part. |
