Sunroof Maintenance

Hi all, hope you're well.

My 82' 300D has an electric sunroof that works fine. However, when it's open, it bounces around. Upon pushing on it, there's a good amount of play up and down (no issues when closed).

I assume I'll need to remove the headliner and take a look, any easy culprits for this kind of issue? It needs to be lubricated anyway, so it's about time to do it.

Thanks in advance

There are rubber/felt bumpers that deteriorate and fall out.

The only thing complicated about the sunroof mechanism is that everything is hidden. Once you remove it the problem will reveal itself. The instructions in the tech section are pretty good.

You do not have to remove the entire headliner; only the liner over the sunroof door. You can then examine the inside with a flashlight and a good eye.

You can also remove the sunroof panel to examine further. Not hard to do. Look for instructions in many places. While you have it out, rod out the rear sunroof drains with some weedwhacker line. Can't get to those any other way.
