Madera Concepts in Goleta, CA. Not cheap but the best. They have a website.

^Yes, Madera, I reached out to them, they can do just the clear or re-veneer your existing if needed, then color match the stain.

I have a few W126 good ones that I was planning to sell.
Which car do you have? Jeff

The good news is people are starting to restore these cars more so they have these parts now being redone. Mercedesautoworks.com has an exchange program which your car should qualify for since the veneer isn't peeling away and chipping. For really bad panels a German guy on ebay is selling new ones look for hpw.cardesign

Neat, they do have a lot of wood parts, thanks for the heads up!
Downside with getting a newer wood gearshift panel is that it may not match the ashtray and rest of the wood. If you get it done with Madera, they recommend to send in the ashtray panel also so they can color match your gearshift panel to it if needed, in case the sun has also faded the veneer. The price of a new entire panel at hpw.cardesign is about how much Madera quoted me for a full restoration involving fully replacing the veneer. But a lot of jobs need just stripping and replacing the cracked clear coat for about half that. |

If u do one you gotta do them all or they won't match and u will kick yourself everytime you look at it.
I guess I'm talking about the replacement this Madera that will match the stain sounds cool

Yeah I went into this searching for a good used gearshift panel.
Then I read apparently the clearcoat process Mercedes used is prone to this, so big chance any panel I get whether a take off or NOS will crack eventually. Then I learned (doublenasty I think I saw you post about it too) that shades vary widely, and each car has a matched set. Refurb kept coming up as an option, and Madera kept popping up so I contacted them, they mentioned the color matching too. Price isnt that bad considering the work involved and color matching. So I will just get the gearshift panel refurbed, I'm thinking of getting all the dash wood re-cleared at the same time lol! Downside is it will take a few weeks. I have a parts car with ratty wood, will put in the wood from that while I get a set done. OP, I checked inzgary's link and they do have a lot of W123 wood. You may find what you need there. |

Another option, perhaps not for OP but for others reading, is to strip that awful clear coat and have a natural look.
I used a hardwax oil on mine (Osmo top coat) and I think it looks fantastic. Much warmer and far less plastic looking.

FYI, I ordered and paid for a refinished wood piece from Mercedesautoworks.com a few years ago. He took my money. Then he didn't send the part or answer my emails or calls. I had to file a PAYPAL dispute. Paypal returned my money. DON'T BUY FROM MERCEDESAUTOWORKS.COM!!! Usually when you take a persons money and then don't provide the product or service, then hide from them, we call that stealing. |
