Any work around for one time use vacuum modulator cap

I'm working to adjust the trans on the 85TD that shifts hard. It has a 617 with a 722.315 trans. Settings are way off. I adjusted the VCV and restored proper vacuum to the modulator. It still shifts hard.

The specs call for 42 psi out of the modulator with the vacuum line disconnected. I'm at 50 psi.

The problem is that this modulator has the single use cap which various threads say will be destroyed upon removal/

Has anyone found a work around?

Post #6 of this thread shows the back side of the cap.
Cap on Modulator Valve

Edit: I fund this part number (126-987-07-45) for the cap only at several places for under $4 each. No one can confirm that is is correct. Shipping is ~$8 and it has to be ordered from Mercedes and put on a slow boat for shipping. Ebay has it delivered 2 for $9. I'll decide by tomorrow once I confirm from the seller when he can deliver.

A work around is preferable.

Cap is reusable, adjust to most forward position and carefully pry off, reinstall at that position also.
When adjusting leave cap off, make adjustment pull pin, test drive,do this untill desired
shift is obtained.
VCV may be adjusted more or less vac.depending on driving habits or trans.shifting.
Make all adj.before reinstalling cap.

That did it. Thanks. I have more to do before driving it since it is currently uninsured. I'm just fixing the obvious things. trans vacuum and pressure were way out which accounts for the hard shifting. They are in specs now and I'll fine tune later.

Seats are out for repair, oil line to to the filter housing is awaiting new sealing washers, carpet and console are out for floor rust repair and interior vac leaks.

I'll take the seat covers to be repaired, fix a couple of broken springs, change the oil, adjust the valves then see where I am. I think this will be a good car.
