Weird sound from drive train
Lately I have noticed a somewhat medium pitched moan that seems to be originating at the left rear corner of the car. It seems to do it while accelerating from either a stop or near stop, and only seems to happen while turning right or sometimes driving straight ahead.
I only get to drive the car about once a week. My 17 year old son is the main driver. I have asked him to pay attention to the sound, but you know how some teenagers can be. I will try to take the car for a spin this weekend. Any ideas? Thanks, Doug Vazquez |
Doug:
Possibly a stuck piston on the rear brakes allowing the pad to rattle, or a loose parking brake shoe, but most likely a bad rear axle half. When the constant velocity joints go, they moan and vibrate. Get it checked out -- most teenagers will have the radio up so loud the won't hear anything until the axle separates and the car stops.
