My friend Blue Nelson and his high mileage Diesels

Here are some photos of Blue Nelson's four High Mileage Mercedes-Benz Diesel cars. I'll throw mine in the mix too!
1) 1982 300TD 561,000 miles 500k of which Blue put on himself

Part 2

2) 1982 200D "Brauner Benz" https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=brauner+benz
826,000 KM (513,252 miles) Most of which were accumulated by Markus Besold driving around the world for 12 years. Blue and I met Markus at the Titanic Museum in Belfast in 2019 while traveling around Europe. Markus was presented with the high mileage award from Mercedes-Benz. The Grille Badge(s) stayed with the car. Markus hopes to one day be united with his car.

You do know that there was a feature article series on Blue Nelson in The Star magazine, the conclusion of which was in the Jan-Feb 2020 issue starting on page 48... right?

Absolutely! I don't have my issue handy, is that the "Parts and Recreation" article? If so, that was the trip he and I took to Europe. The car is in New York at a friends house, and Blue will be picking it up in the near future....Rich

SO to throw some controversy into the mix, how many are running on the original timing chain and guides??? The answer might put to rest the fact, fiction, or fear......

I know for sure #1- blue '82 300TD has a new engine, Complete engine rebuild- 557,000 mile 300TD. so it is out. The Brauner Benz is out as well, as it has a later 240 engine. The others, I doubt anyone knows. As for my wagon, it does in fact have the original engine, and has not been rebuilt. The guy I got the car from bought it at 175K, and personally put the remaining 450K+ on by commuting 250 miles a day for 15 years. He only did regular maintenance, and no major work. However, it is on it's fourth transmission. The latest one from Sun Valley, and it shifts perfectly!.....Rich
