Anyone have a source for good quality windshield replacement glass for a 85 300TD? Couldn't find anything in the forum search.

Someone in one of the threads mentioned Safelite provided the Windshield and the seal when they installed it.

I don't have the car which my Wife has in another city nor can I find the picture I took of where it was made but the Windshield on my Car is from Mexico.

If possible source a genuine Mercedes seal. The “other” brand seals leak at times and also the bright moulding does not fit well.

You may already know this, the windshield is the same for sedans and wagons, this may widen your search. Some suppliers catalogs may not list T cars.

Reach out to PPG and LOF directly for part numbers and search on them.

As stated try to get a MBZ seal not aftermarket.

Are you going to install it yourself? It isn't overly difficult with a helper.

Thanks everyone for the info. Yes, I will be using a MB seal, not aftermarket. I did contact windshieldstogo and they have it available for about $250 installed. They wanted to sell me a brand called "xyg" but after some questioning they did say that Pilkington is also available. I have to do some further investigation into a leak issue but will probably get the Pilkington.

There is a few threads on the windshield seal.

Be very selective about the installer, you won't be happy if you are that installers first W123. I suggest confirming that your specific installer has done them.

I’ve been looking for Pilkington windshields. All I could find was an off Chinese brand. I just bought 2 from windshieldstogo.com. Perfect timing for this thread. Thanks!

Also consider All Star Glass Co., a reliable chain .

Always go to the shop and spend a few moments talking to then, most chops have at least one guy who's familiar with these old style rubber grommet windshields .

Remember : the glass goes in the rubber then the trim goes in the rubber THEN and only then may the rope be inserted and the entire assembly installed to the car....

^^^ The order stated in the last paragraph above is mission critical.

I'll add that I'd cut the old moldings out of the rubber, they will bend if pulled out.

My w126 front glass is pitted and tired. I don’t know how to change this style and I am hoping to find a person to put a new one on.

I recently tried a w123 gasket from “the other brand”. I’ve used real MB OEM and yes they are beefier and fit better. But the other brand worked ok. It wasn’t bad for the money. Just got a little nervous about the fit because it is smaller needs more English to get it on. But it did work out just fine once I got it all popped in over the pinch weld.

You're welcome, I always try to be helpful .

For glass installing if you have the big rubber grommet, it's not terribly hard t use a string ir better yet plastic covered wire stuffed in the grommet's body groove with the ends over lapping at the center top ~ offer up the windshield with the grommet and trims on it and the string/nylon rope/ plastic wire stuffed in the grommet's slot and have a friend *gently hold it in place as you pull the string in by hand from the front seat ~ the lip of the grommet will slip over the body's pinchweld, if it slips a bit, stop and pull the other string a while....

This sounds much harder that it is .

Once you do it a few times you'll relax and be able to do them easier .

The idea with the string is to use the slipperiest one you can find, this is why I use very flexible plastic coated wire, next best will be nylon rope, no larger than 1/4" diameter .

Lastly plain old string or twine can be used but it often isn't slippery enough to flip the grommet's lip over the pinchweld .

Resist the urge to use hooks or other metal tools, this is how you crack the windshield .
