om606 swap in 190e 2.3

Guys I am currently planning out a track car build. Want to swap an om606 super turbo diesel (450 hp) into a 1987 190e 2.3 four cylinder / 5 speed manual car. Is this even doable?

The 6 cylinder 2.6 M103 they put in a 190E has similar length to a OM606 I believe.

Also only the 2.6 had a removable radiator core support which I believe is necessary in order to take the straight six in and out of the car due to tight fit. It also makes a swap easier

2.3 didn't have that feature

Man that's great info thank you so much for the response. sounds like the four cylinder car would not be a good candidate due to that removable radiator core only being in the 6-cylinder cars.

The OM606 would be a TIGHT fit in the W201....I'd bet that it would not fit without extensive mods to the car. I've swapped the OM601 into a 190e 2.3....there was enough room, but its not exactly a spacious working environment, its a pretty small engine bay. The M103 was really crammed in there. Also keep in mind the 606 is roughly 140-160lbs heavier, thats a lot of extra weight up front.

Modding the car to have a removable radiator core support is just the tip of the ice berg vs everything else needed....

This guy did it:

Honda K24 swap it!

Cheaper, smaller footprint, more aftermarket support in the US, You're not converting to diesel. Could build in stages, i.e NA, then turbo instead of going all out from the start with top mount turbo.

I've been looking at OM606 swapping my w123 but, the turbo cars are sort of rare, and if you want one under 250k miles its over $3k, then you need a $2k pump from the UK, and a $2k turbo upgrade to go top mount and fit in that 190. Then all the standard motor swap stuff that you'd still need like custom mounts and trans adapters, custom drive shaft, etc.

Some people are putting the K24 in to the BMW E30 chassis, go google that! I'm thinking it could work out in my W123, or your 190.

A 55k mile K24 is $800.

Very few MB people are going to have interest in having a Honda engine in their MB....just sayin.

OM606 = way more awesome.

"I am currently planning out a track car build."

When the "track car" has run 100 laps with the original power train, and the chassis is becoming sorted, then will be time to give consideration to another power plant and drive train.
To talk of an engine swap at this point is only argumentative and dilettantish.
