300SDL power steering pump bleeding
Need help to fix my power steering. It is Vickers power steering unit, part number 126 460 22 80. It was leaking around the shaft and I bought a kit to replace the shaft seal plus a few o-rings. It seems to be a simple job and I don't think I messed anything up. I buttoned everything up. I lifted the car and turned the steering a number of times full lock on both sides. Lower the car and it does not work. Is there any special procedure to bleed the pump and the steering rack? I am stumped.

Is the pump making pressure? Perhaps pull a return line off to see if fluid is moving? Pump should be moving a crap ton of volume
|

takes time to build pressure,and having a buddy keep filling pump helps,turn steering wheel a bunch

Fixed. My bad. I did not assemble the innards of the pump properly. The internal is not keyed or marked well so I flipped it the wrong way. I re-assembled it, lifted the front up and turned the steering a few times to bleed the air. Started the engine, turned the steering a few times again and everything worked as expected.
