Did someone mess with IP timing by chance?

Here's how to line it up right

Took pump to reputable Bosch shop in the ATL and the verdict is pump is trash from running all those thousands of miles on homemade biod. I reminded the friend how much $$ he had saved making his own fuel. He said the QC manager for his fuel company is a dumbass LOL. Seems the pump shop has already found him a good replacement.

Owner found a brand new, old stock injection pump for 1300 pieces of the green paper. Kinda pissed me off that the pump shop returned his in a plastic back taken all apart even the fuel pump from off the side. At least prior to taking to them he had a pump that you could get to work.

I can't blame the pump shop for sending it back in pieces, if the pump is toast why would they expend the effort to put it back together. jm2c

That's so clean and new, it's almost a shame to install it! Almost...

FYI BenzForce is the US based distributor for Dieselmeken's rebuilt and modified om606 IP's. I bought a Dieselmeken 7.5mm EDC pump from them last year for my 98 E300, and its the real deal, good stuff. They also have a variety of hard to find and useful custom parts for sale. (No affiliation, just a satisfied customer).

My 98 E300 had a worn out IP at only ~150k miles. Not sure the history, I only bought the car in 2014. Main symptom was a rough lopy idle that would smooth out only when a load (e.g. a/c compressor) was applied.

I felt like it needed to be framed and hung on the wall.

Easy cranking can mean low compression. Did you check that?

With proper synthetic oil changes how long should original chain and guides last? Can stretched chain cause harder hot start than cold?
It's due @ 375,000 miles. You don't know how it's been driven...

Got new, old stock injection pump installed over weekend and got it running today. Looks like I'm off on timing a little. Lots of smoke and idles very poorly. Once you get off of idle it runs what seems like it is supposed to. I pinned the pump and installed it with the crank indicating right at 14/15 degrees. Before I tore the car down the pump pinned at 19 degrees. I'm probably going to try that setting. Why is this when everything I read says 14/15 degree range?

Chain timing is spot on. I'm pretty sure I did not get pump installed in the correct spot and check it and remove/adjust as necessary.
