Maximum Tire Diameter W124?
Hi All,
Wondering what the maximum tire diameter is for the w124 with a stock suspension before you run into clearance issues. I have been looking for info to lift my 300TD at least an inch, possibly close to 2, done with a combination of spring pads and taller tires. Currently have been getting a ton of rain and forced to drive through flooded roadways and would like the car to sit a little higher. Currently the 87 sits 15.5" front and 16" rear wheel center to fender. Would like to bump that by 0.5-0.75" with spring pads and add another 0.5" to the diameter of the tire to both close the gap and add to the overall height. Any ideas? Concerns? I may be looking at this the wrong way, but a spring pad bump, staying within the W124 pad range, should be perfectly within the limits of the w124 suspension geometry. A similar increase in the tire diameter would offset some of the angle introduced by the thicker pads. Is this correct? TIA

I do know that stock W210 rims/tires work fine on a W124.

Thanks Shertex, that's good to know, seems as if the specs stayed the same mostly in terms of wheel size and offset etc. for the w210.
So far whether the w124 or w210, the diameter of the stock wheel and tire combos tends to fall in between 25.3"-25.5" diameter. This is for wheel sizes 15,16,17 offered or as +1 I currently have 215/55/16 on CLK light wheels which comes in at 25.3" dia. a change in profile alone to 215/60/16 takes the diameter up to 26.2" which puts it about .5 inch closer to the fender. Pity I'm no longer a kid working the night shift at the old gas station/garage where I knew how and had access to tires and mounting/balancing machines and would just do trial and error until I figured it out, but alas... input always welcomed
