I have an 84 300D. Attached is a picture of the Mercedes Box it came in. The part number has the A which most part places don't use and the number 126 462 07 30

Notice on the box I circled Made in France.

The Valeo ones are made in France and the one I new one I received from Mercedes was as I sais made in France and head Neiman cast into it. With some research I found out that Valeo and Neiman are part of the same conglomerate.

The main thing you need to be sure of is that you are getting a complete one with an new Ignition Switch and a new Vacuum Shutoff Valve on it.

Also need to be careful not to get the gasoline engine one looks similar but has no place to mount the Vacuum Shutoff Valve.

Is the Valeo or the Febi Bilstein unit of the same quality as the Mercedes-Benz unit? Also, I'm told that 07 superceded (upgraded) 05.

I have no idea what represents an upgrade. I thought the difference was in the hollowed/bell that covers up the Ignition Switch which is to make it harder for someone to disconnect your Ignition Switch Electrical Connector and hot wire it.

This is my experience: Mercedes OEM made in France = Nieman, Nieman made in France is the same as Valeo because they are part of the same company.

Someone will have to chime in on where the Febi Bilstein one is made but Febi sells some parts made in the PRC (Meyle even more so with the PRC items).

Notice the Febi part and genuine MB part number is 05, Valeo is 07. I am assuming they are the same ignition key lock part?

126 462 07 30 Was on the box from Mercedes and had a Neiman steering Colum lock in it; Made in France.

From what I found out Neiman and Valeo are actually parts of the same company.

What needs to be checked on is that the steering colum locks for gasoline Mercedes do not have the hole or the 2 drilled and tapped holes for the vacuum shutoff valve that is on the steering colum for diesel engine modes. The gasoline verses the diesel steering colum lock could be the difference in the part numbers.

As far as this side of the pond, the only ignition key assemblies I can find are Febi/Bilstein. Will Febi/Bilstein work well? Just found out there is a negative review on pelican parts for the febi/bilstein ignition cylinder...around twenty bux.
