EGR Question

I own a 2008 E320 Bluetec and have noticed that MB Diesel owners talk a lot about EGRs for these Diesel cars.
Many of them say that bad EGRs cause damages to the DPF in these cars.
Only to know better, what are the symptoms of a bad EGR on E320 Bluetec?
Thanks.

The EGR can get stuck. On the sedan it’s pretty easy to get to. A couple bolts and then it pulls out of the housing. Gentle taps with a rubber mallet helped when I had to pull it for the oil cooler seal job.

If you get access to a diagnostic system you can run a guided test on the EGR valve to see if it is functioning correctly.

Does the 08 even have dpf?
A failed EGR valve puts the car into limp mode.

Yes this era of the 642 has a catalyst just past the turbo and a DPF located under the body.

Both my 2008 E320 (W211) and 2008 ML320 (W164) have this same setup.

Note that even though 2007-2009 W211s with the 642 are badged Bluetec, they do not have an SCR or use DEF.

In the transition to W212 (sedan) and W166/X166 (SUV) in 2010 they added the SCR which uses the DEF fluid to the other items in the exhaust train.

Yes, the 2008 has DPF and by the way I had my removed and professionally cleaned.
My concern about EGR is because I read in many articles about DPF where sais that a bad EGR will cause the DPF to clog very quick.
As DPF is very expensive I want to make sure that my EGR is working properly.

Sorry - I deleted my post due to realizing it was based on a major brain-fart. :o
