Couldn't believe my eyes when my insurance company came back with a £28K ($37K) agreed valuation on my 1976 240d. Said another way, if I hit a tree here tomorrow, I get a cheque for the above. I then checked in with a fellow /8 owner who owns a 240 3.0D with a similar valuation.

It was only a handful of years ago that these cars were selling well below W123 prices if they weren't scrapped. It would appear that cared for examples (mine has been restored) are now rare enough to justify these prices.

I've checked Mercedes Motoring's website for years and he sells his /8 cars within days, often at similar if not higher prices. It would appear that the UK has finally caught up with you Yanks after all.

Some folks would see a decimal error in such a valuation, others would see an agent running up the premium.

Definitely not for 1982-85 300D in U.S., like mine. Typical prices might be $3000, and only that high because the public thinks they are million-mile cars and don't know the issues we do.

The mid-atlantic winter weather and the respective states' predilection for salting the roads is ensuring that the increased value of my 1972 220D is offset through the accrual of a concomitant amount of rust.
