Thumbs up W123 HVAC Blower Motor Review

O.K., I got one of these new URO brand blower motors and installed it to my 1982 240D sedan, it's fantastic ~ it's quieter , blows far more air volume and best of all draws far less current, to the point where my taillights and dash lights are noticeably brighter .

It fits right in with no hassle or modifications necessary .

A year or so ago I sourced new brushes for my original BOSCH motor and took it further apart that whatsisname in Bellingham, Washington tell you to do, I cleaned it completely of all dust and old oil residue and then soaked the bronze oilite bushings in Zoom Spout electric motor oil for a day or so, re assembled it and it worked fine but this new one works FAR better and I don't think I'll be doing any more servicing of original blower motors, I still have two more W123's and they'll soon get these, I urge those who like heat or fresh / air conditioned air to try one of these, you won't be sorry .

I don't even know if the M-B Classic Center still has these, that last time I price checked them years ago they were over $1,000.00 (gasp) .

Whenever possible I use factory original parts be they new, new old stock or re conditioned / rebuilt but this is a whole new ball game folks .

Nice one, Nate.
Extra volume sounds lovely...

You can still buy MB (available on this very site for $333) but why would you?
Great upgrade.

Post Air Volume

I'm old and fat so I love AC now .

This blower makes the R134a AC blow cold in the Desert....

This is the ONE URO product that has received generally positive reviews. The only one!

Jury is still out on how long they last though.

Post Uro Parts

They're trying .

I hope the plastic they use in the W123 grilles improves, right now they begin to chalk up after four years .

The motor on my 84 300D is not a Bosch Motor on the plastic housing the motor blots onto it has Siemens 1BB52 13 V on the other side it has in white letters Automatik 28322 You can read that on the bottom without removing the plastic housing.

The Motor is different from the Bosch one and has the Brushes up front under the squirrel cage fan.
The plastic squrrel cage fan had a D shaped hole that goes over the shaft not the splined one that is on the Bosch motors.
I mention this because I don't know if the Siemens motor is a direct interchange with the Bosch one and therefore the URO one.

My URO blower has been in about 6 years I think and has traveled 80K miles or so. Its still working fine but has started making some noise when cold lately.

Might need cleaning and lube.

My URO blower fan was sitting a little high on the shaft, so it would make contact with the recirc flap above it. All I had to do was push it down slightly by hand and that fixed it.
Otherwise, I like it a lot. Less noisy, more volume for me too.

The whole car can be described that way. My 85 is probably 6 months away from parts car status. I am continuing to change the oil, but otherwise its on palliative care.

The Bosch motor can be found for around $75. At least it is for the R107. They interchange with a number of other car makes as well. The squirrel cages have to be swapped out.

Thanks for the feedback Imgolden, that issue should have been corrected on the production line about six months ago. There might still be some units on retailer shelves that were shipped prior to the running change, but all of these blowers should now have the updated fan cage. It wasn't a big issue, only some units brushed the flap, in fact we heard that the offending bit of plastic on the cage "clearanced" itself after some use. Obviously that's far from ideal though, so we made a minor update to the shape of the cage to resolve the issue permanently.

If looking for the latest iteration of your products, would you recommend buying direct?

I bought a Volvo blower motor. Bosch part 0130111134 Volvo 6820812 (motor only). Cost about same as buying a complete URO blower assembly. Haven't had much luck with URO, so went with the Bosch motor swap. Been installed for 3 years now and still working well.
