Ornamental windshield molding

There is some molding on either side of the 126 windshield that is held with screws on the side and a rivet or similar at the top. My rivets are broken & lost. I've talked to 2 dealers and they can't locate a part number to tell if the rivets are still available. I'm looking for alternatives & am considering a rivnut. The smallest from this set which I have takes a 3 mm screw in about a slightly larger than 1/4 inch hole.

The current hole is ~3/16". I'm leery about drilling and creating a possible rust situation. Here's the FSM pages so you can see what needs to be held where. How would you solve the problem?

See the pdf.

Note to administrator: Please install a simple file resizer. Current situation is a pita and it's not that difficult to automate.

I open those photos with Paint then resize them to 25% and save them with labels/names
according to how I plan to post upload them. It takes less time to do that than upload the original photo.

Can't resize easily on my phone.

What about the original question? I need a way to hold the top of the molding where it's supposed to be. Parts places I've talked to can't find the right diagram so no part number, no joy.

Buy a rivet gun and some small aluminum rivets which have stems which will go into the holes.

I can't say if the management here is going to solve your upload issue or not. I suspect since this has been ongoing for a decade or so, they won't.

It's easy enough to Email the photos to yourself and post the pics when you get to you computer. You should be documenting all this work with photos in stages for others here who may need to tap into your experiences. What may seem obvious to you and I may not to others.

I have rivets. I don't have the part that the rivet holds that stands off the roof to catch the trim. One option is to use a rivnut which would hold a small screw with a head. That will require enlarging the hole.

Another option is to put a screw in the existing hole. That would require the metal to be thick enough to hold the screw securely for many miles.

My preferred option is to find the correct part.

I "can" resize pics. It's just more hoops to jump through. Setting up an account and linking to the pic is another option but those links get broken and become worthless.

Auto resizing is similarly convenient to having a zip code lookup on a form. It saves the data enterer's key strokes.

I think you need Item Number 50 (5 are used for the front windshield).
MB Part Number A1269880078

Or it might be Item Number 26 (2 are used at the top of the windshield).
MB Part Number A1266710012

@Alex, that's the diagram that keeps popping up that doesn't show the rivets.

FWIW, the clips in the diagram you posted that hold the top chrome on are still available but the window has to come out to gain access.

I need the piece that goes in the hole and would be covered by the painted trim in the attached pic.

Edit: notice the beautiful anthricite grey that has been so smoothly applied and buffed. The entire exterior loks like that. I'll post more pics when I have a chance.

Maybe the folks at the classic center in Irvine CA can find the part number.
EPC is known to have some gaps.

You might need to pull a good used set from the local junkyard, if nothing else pans out.
