I have sourced my 722.6 transmission. I believe that is a diesel bell housing. I think I can get the transmission torn down and inspected for a couple bottles Johnnie Walker Black. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I have a spare 603 injection pump that will be going into the 97 606 NA soon. The 606 head flows a lot more air that the 603 and but it's fuel limited by the IP.
I've never owned an early 603 turbo.

Well the point is both engines have the same displacement, the 603 isn't making any boost just off idle yet it's much quicker off the line than the 606. The 606 is artificially limited by fuel delivery. An NA 606 with a 603 turbo pump would be far more lively.

I think you're missing out on one thing.

The initial comment comparing these engines off the line was by me. I commented on my 1995 E300 (w124), which has a mechanical linkage to the pump just like the 603 turbo. Your 606 is in a w210, which always had an electronically controlled pump.

I had a 606 too. That engine (and the 602 I had) was always very sluggish off the line but if you held the pedal down it would come on the cam and really come alive at high rpm. I always thought it was just the cam specs. doing it.
