'76 240d....manuals/books?

Howdy folks,

For quite a few years I owned a '76 240d W115 while living in Portland. I adored that car and only sold because I ended up moving cross country.

Years later I'm back in the NW and this week I'm picking up a new/old '76 240d.

I do most of my own repairs and maintenance. My last 240d came with one of the old Green manuals (can't remember what it was called) that was thick and comprehensive.

Now I'm seeing the basic Haynes manual is for W123 chassis cars. Are these helpful for anything in regards to the W115's?

Also, in looking on Ebay I'm seeing some expensive manuals/books, which do I need? Basically all I need at this point is to know the basic procedures for routine maintenance. I remember how to do the canister oil filter and oil bath air cleaner.

But I will want to replace the fuel filters and can't recollect the procedure on priming.

And also want to service the auto tranny/filter etc and don't know the right procedure for this either.

Is there a "maintenance/service" version of the old green MB manuals? Just want to be sure I don't buy a book that doesn't have the info I need.

Thanks a bunch!

IMO Look for factory, Bentley, Glenn's, Haynes or Chilton's in that order.

Some driveline similarities to the W123 not much else.

Remember to check the oil in the injection pump, red cap "OEL"

Had a manual w/AC, great car. Post pics of yours if you wish.

Good luck!

This will cover the motor, with some differences, cause it's for W123 cars.

If you decide to buy any of these you could see if you can find them on eBay used.
When I looked into the Bently W123 Manual it did not cover diesels.

The Haynes W123 Manual has taking apart manual transmissions in it. However, I have not seen a W115 Manual.

The in German Language Manuals are said to have the Automatic Transmission stuff but again for the W123 the CD Factory Servise Manual has nothing beyond the filter changing for Automatic Transmissions.

I have the w114/w115 DVD files (although you'll need to find a way to use Flash for the navigation - the actual pages are just PDFs, so you can always go thru them and figure out which is what). PM me and we can figure out how to get them to you (too big to just email). I'll have to double check my shelf at the shop, but I think I also have some w115 and om616 paper manuals if you need specific references along the way. Also have bunches of trivial extras all over.

Welcome (back) to the club!
-Bruce (picked the color of my Mom's new w115 back in 1976, later learned to drive in it, still enjoy driving it)
